You may use financial aid to pay for your books if there is enough funding to cover tuition, fees, and expected book charges. To qualify, you must have signed and returned your financial aid award letter prior to the beginning of the semester. Please contact the BMCC Financial Aid Office to determine how much funding you may have available and to obtain a financial aid charge approval. If you are not eligible, you will need to pay for your books at the time of purchase. 

Federal law requires all students who receive federal financial aid to make Satisfactory Academic Progress toward their degree. The purpose of this is to ensure that students who are receiving federal funding are making measureable academic progress toward completing an eligible academic program within a reasonable period of time. Each semester, the Financial Aid Office will review the student’s transcript to determine if the student is in compliance with government standards. Students must earn at least 67% of the credit hours, which they attempt at BMCC on a cumulative basis and maintain a 2.0 grade point average. Post-secondary students are limited to receiving financial aid for up to 150% of the credit hours required for their program of study; therefore, in your effort to earn an associate degree from BMCC, you can obtain financial aid for up to 99 credit hours provided you maintain satisfactory academic progress.

BMCC offers part-time employment opportunities for students through the Federal Work Study program and other funding. To qualify for Federal Work Study positions, the student must have a demonstrated financial need and be eligible for financial aid. Financial need may not be a factor for some of the other student worker positions. Students interested in working for the College should contact the Human Resources Department.

You should start by applying for a FSA ID (a username and password) through the U.S. Department of Education. Then you will need to gather the documents needed to complete the FAFSA. Typically, these documents include your social security number or alien registration number, your federal income tax returns (Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool), W-2s and other records of money earned, bank statements and records of investments (if applicable), records of untaxed income (if applicable), and an FSA ID to sign electronically. If you are a dependent student, you will also need most of the above information for your parent(s).

After the FAFSA is signed and submitted to the U.S Department of Education, an analysis of the information will be released to BMCC. BMCC’s Financial Aid office will send you an award letter listing the types and amounts of aid for which you are eligible, or verification paperwork. If you are selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education, you must complete the process prior to being awarded any funding (please see the question below for further detail). Once you sign and return the award letter, you can charge tuition and fees up to the amount of aid for which you are eligible.

Yes, Bay Mills Community College will accept transfer credits from other accredited institutions within certain guidelines.

 “I” (Incomplete): Students are responsible for completing the requirements of courses in which they are enrolled by the end of the semester. Grades of incomplete will only be given when the student has completed seventy percent (70%) of the course requirements with a passing grade, and when in the opinion of the instructor, the student has a valid excuse for not completing on time and there is reasonable probability the work can be completed in the extension time. If the student does not complete the course requirements by the end of the extension granted (no later than five weeks after the semester ends), the grade earned up to that date will be recorded. An incomplete grade may affect your financial aid, and you are advised to discuss the matter with the Financial Aid Office.

Attendance and class participation are part of developing a thorough understanding of the material covered in this course.  BMCC policy states that a minimum of seventy percent (70%) attendance is required to receive a grade of C or better.  Grades of incomplete will only be given under exceptional circumstances, and only if the student has completed 70% of course requirements with a passing grade. ON CAMPUS students are expected to attend scheduled class times, ON-LINE students must log on and complete weekly assignments to demonstrate attendance in online classes.

Course withdrawal is official only upon completion of the Course Withdrawal Form. Non-attendance does not constitute withdrawal. No withdrawal will be processed based upon a phone call. To properly withdraw from your courses requires completion and signing of the Course Withdrawal Form. Students officially withdrawing from a course after the first ten days of the semester will have their permanent record marked with a "W" for withdrawal.

Students discontinuing their studies at BMCC during the academic year must complete the official Withdrawal Form. Students leaving college without completing the withdrawal form will receive a grade of "F" for all courses. NOTE: Withdrawal from college, after receiving federal financial aid funding, will result in the student financial aid being recalculated, and the student may have to return any unearned aid.

The Student Support Services program provides opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and to motivate students toward the successful completion of their post-secondary education. Our Student Support Services (SSS) project provides fall and spring grant aid to current eligible SSS participants who are receiving the Federal PELL Grant. The goal of SSS is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants. (U.S. Department of Education). 

To be eligible for acceptance and qualify for the free services offered through SSS, students must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident. One must also demonstrate the academic need and meet at least one of the following: ·Are a first generation college student and/or ·Demonstrate financial need and/or ·Have a documented disability

Some online courses may require students to take one or more tests/exams in a proctored setting during the course.  Check your course syllabus in Moodle to determine whether or not your course requires a proctor.  It is the student’s responsibility to locate and designate an acceptable proctor.

A proctor is an approved person that administers an exam to a BMCC student and agrees to fulfill the proctor responsibilities required by BMCC. The proctor will verify a student’s identity by checking a photo ID and will ensure academic integrity guidelines during exams are followed (e.g., no notes, textbooks, outside assistance, etc.).

Who can be a proctor?

Acceptable proctors include military/industry education or testing centers, school/college counselors, administrators, and teachers or local librarians. Relatives, direct supervisors, co-workers, or anyone the student has a personal relationship with, are NOT qualified proctors and will be denied. Any individual who cannot provide a suitable testing environment will also be denied as a proctor. To be approved to administer exams, a proctor must be affiliated with a suitable organization, such as a college, school, library or educational testing facility. Contact information provided for the proctor must be affiliated with this organization (e.g., phone number and email address).

BMCC reserves the right to deny any proctor or assign proctors to students as necessary. Your syllabi for all classes, both online and on campus, can be found in your Moodle classroom. You should have access to Moodle a week prior to the start date of your courses.  

Please refer to the Academic calendar for specific semester dates.  Most online classes are offered for 15 weeks in an asynchronous format, meaning you log into class each week at a time that is convenient for you unless otherwise stated by your instructor. That does not mean, however, that frequent and consistent access to the online class is not required, in fact, we strongly encourage it. Online classes may also meet online at scheduled times for chat sessions; this will be determined by the instructor in each course. Refer to the course syllabus for any scheduled live meeting times or specific early deadlines. All online classes follow the Eastern Standard Time zone (EST) for defining the start and end of a week within the online term, any synchronous meeting times, drop and withdrawal deadline times and assignment and exam submission times.

Students will need to bring a picture ID with them (as proof of their identity) and will also need their seven digit student ID number.  A calculator is provided on the test.

Placement scores from other schools count as long as they are less than three years old.  If they are older than three years, you will need to retest.  Also, if you took the “E-Write” section rather than the “Writing” section, you may need to take just the writing portion of the test.
