Tutoring Services

Student Success Center Logo

The Student Success Center offers academic assistance through a variety of teaching, tutoring, and assessment services designed to help students succeed in college.  Our goal is to support and expand the students’ classroom experiences.

Tutoring is FREE and provided through peer tutors and professional tutors. Students are encouraged to use the BMCC Student Success Center, in addition to the academic enrichment courses, to develop their skills in areas such as reading, writing, and basic math. No need to schedule an appointment!

If we don't have a tutor in the subject you are looking for or there is a schedule conflict, click here to download a Tutor Request Form and bring the completed form to the Student Success Center. The staff at the center will make every effort to find a tutor that fits your needs.

Online students may use our free online tutoring service, Brainfuse, which is available via a link in each online Moodle course. Online Tutoring for Math, English and Writing is available 24hrs/day. Please click here for more information.

SSC Updated Summer 2020 Tutoring

The Student Success Center is announcing that all professional tutoring will be held online for ALL students. In efforts to make tutoring accessible for students and keep our students and their families healthy, the Student Success Center will be closed for in-person tutoring until further notice.

Math Tutoring

Michael Barrett, Professional Math Tutor will also be available for students online in ALL math courses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.  Mike will be using a tutoring platform called GoBoard which will allow students to not only see him but also use a web board for working out problems and showing examples.  This platform will also send a PDF version of the notes that you are working with Mike on to your email. The best way to use this service is to make sure you also have a webcam and microphone set up, but if you don’t have a webcam or microphone, you can use the chat feature in the platform as well.  Please send Mike an email and he will send you the link to the online tutoring board that you will be using. Mike’s email address is mbarrett@bmcc.edu.

  1. It is important for you to have an idea of what you want to work on.  The tutoring session depends on what your needs are, tell your tutor what you want to improve.
  2. Tutoring sessions do not replace class instruction or independent work, but do offer reinforcement, practice, clarification, and suggestions for improvement.
  3. Tutoring sessions help you understand better what your instructor expects you to do, where your errors are, and how you can improve. The responsibility to accomplish your work after guidance from your tutor is still yours.
