Safe Zone

Safe Zone Style 02

The 2SLGBTQIA+ Safe Zone Sticker is a campus-wide ideology that offers a visible message of inclusion, affirmation, and support to two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, plus more (2SLGBTQIA+) people in the college community. A Safe Zone is a place where students can talk in a non-judgmental environment, receive support, and get connected to the resources they need to succeed.

Each of us has an identity based on our background, including our gender, sexuality, race/ethnicity, age, mental health, disability, education, socioeconomic status, veteran status, etc. This combination is unique for each of us. The intersectionality of all facets of our lived experience creates our unique identities. Unfortunately, many backgrounds and identities have been marginalized, stigmatized, and sometimes targeted with violence and oppression. We create Safe Zone spaces to allow people to be their true selves without fear of such threats.

The sticker does not mean that the person is Safe Zone certified, but that they are a safe place and here to support you and your educational journey. Look for the Safe Zone sticker around campus and in Moodle profiles.
