FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brimley, MI – Bay Mills Community College (BMCC) has named Heather Church, the Assistant Registrar who teaches part-time in both the Office Administration and Education programs, as its 2026 Faculty of the Year. The award highlights her outstanding instruction, deep care for learners, and lasting impact in the classroom. Church makes history as the first adjunct instructor to earn the honor.

The selection process began with student nominations, resulting in 36 submissions recognizing 22 faculty members. Church stood out for how seamlessly she manages her own multiple responsibilities while still offering students a clear, encouraging, and well-structured learning environment across two different program areas.

Those who nominated her pointed to her patience, focus, and ability to break down difficult topics. One student shared, "Heather Church has been a fantastic educator, very understanding and also on top of everything happening in her life and in her school position. She has made learning easier and has been so helpful to me, and others as well. I look forward to taking more of her classes in the future."

Reflecting on the award, Heather remarked, "I’m truly grateful to receive this honor from Bay Mills Community College. As a former student, I know firsthand the impact supportive faculty can have, and I strive to create that same experience for my students. Being able to encourage students and celebrate their success is what makes this work so meaningful to me."

BMCC President Dr. Duane Bedell celebrated Heather’s achievement, stating: “Heather’s recognition as the 2026 Faculty of the Year reflects the dedication, compassion, and student-centered approach she brings to Bay Mills Community College every day. As the first adjunct instructor to receive this honor, Heather’s impact on our students and campus community speaks volumes about her commitment to helping others succeed.”

Heather Church’s historic win as the first-ever adjunct Faculty of the Year underscores BMCC’s commitment to learner-centered education. The college extends its warmest congratulations to her for this richly deserved recognition and for the profound difference she continues to make on campus.
