Winter Weather Reminder
As the snow continues to fall BMCC may close if the weather gets too frightful. Remember to watch 9 & 10 News for school cancellations. We don't want you to drive out here in a nasty snowstorm for nothing!
New Registration Process for BMCC’s Virtual College
In the past, BMCC’s on-line registration has been “open.” This meant that students could register for classes at any time, and begin their course work as soon as they received a welcome letter from the Virtual College Coordinator. This process allowed scheduling flexibility. However, collaborating between students was nearly impossible. The new on-line registration policy for “Planned Registration Dates” went into effect winter semester 2008. Students can now only register for courses during the designated dates.

Awards will be given for volunteerism, leadership and high GPA’s. Students who are graduating will also be receiving awards and are allowed to bring one guest. There is going to be a guest speaker at this year’s retreat and recognition ceremony, her name is Tara Ruttley. Tara is a former TRiO student and now has a PhD in Neuroscience. Tara is the Lead Hardware Engineer for NASA and works onboard the International Space Station (ISS). A sign-up sheet for the retreat and recognition ceremony is now posted in the TRiO Computer Lab.
Uncommon Leaders Scholarship
TRiO will be awarding $100 to a TRiO student that has Uncommon Leadership qualities, such as: Integrity, Moral Courage, Knowledge, Physical Courage, Unselfishness, Self Control, Enthusiasm, Loyalty, Tact, Respect, Humility, Initiative, and Fortitude. If you know anyone who has any of these qualities nominate them! To nominate a student just submit an essay in the drop-box, located inside the TRiO Computer Lab. Essays should say why this person deserves the award and list what Uncommon Leadership qualities they have. Deadline for nomination essays is March 15th. An award will be given at the TRiO SSS Spring Retreat and Recognition Ceremony in April
Openings in TRiO
Students if you know somebody who is not already in TRiO SSS direct them to the TRiO Computer Lab so they can fill-out an application. To be eligible for TRiO you must be a first generation college student (neither parent has a four-year degree) and disabled (a learning disability or physical disability). Each student referring someone to TRiO will receive a flash drive after that person's in-take appointment and their first appointment with their advisor is done
