Early Registration

Early Registration for the Fall 2008 Semester started April 7th and is continuing until May 2nd. Please see your Academic Advisor A.S.A.P to schedule your classes. You may also see your TRiO Advisor to see what classes you should be taking before actually scheduling them with your Academic Advisor. Many classes were closed last semester because not enough students were signed up for them. To ensure you get the classes you need for next semester, please don’t hesitate to take advantage of BMCC’s early registration going on now.

2008 Spring Retreat and Recognition Ceremony

This year’s TRiO Spring Retreat and Recognition Ceremony will be held at the Resort on Wednesday, April 16th from 12:00-3:00 pm. The Spring Retreat is formal dress.

(NO JEANS!) Awards will be given for volunteerism, leadership and high GPA’s. Students who are graduating will also be receiving awards and are allowed to bring one guest. This year’s guest speaker is Tara Ruttley. Tara is a former TRiO student and now has a PhD in Neuroscience. Tara is the Lead Hardware Engineer for NASA and works onboard the International Space Station (ISS). A sign-up sheet for the retreat and recognition ceremony is now posted in the TRiO Computer Lab. So far only 65 out of TRiO’s 170 students have signed up. We urge you to sign up immediately if you are planning to attend this year’s retreat and recognition ceremony. If you are being recognized for something, don’t you want to be there to receive the recognition? Not to mention a student will be awarded $100 for the Uncommon Leadership Award. Wouldn’t you like to know if it is you or not?

Graduation

Graduation is approaching fast! If you are graduating please make sure that you go to the Financial Aid Office to be fitted for your cap and gown. Also, if you are graduating please make sure that your Academic Advisor fills out a Declaration of Graduation form with you and it is turned in A.S.A.P. Pictures will be taken at the Waishkey Center on Friday, May 9th at 9:00 am. If you are interested in purchasing an 8x10 graduate photo for $10, you should contact Tina Kelly in the President’s Office. The deadline to sign up for a picture is Tuesday, May 6th. Please pay when signing up. Graduation is May 9th and will be held at the Resort. Line-up is at 10:00 am and the ceremony starts at 10:30 am.

Reminders

• Graduates, remember to stop by the Financial Aid Office to get measured for your cap and gown!
• Don’t forget to schedule an appointment with your TRiO advisor as soon as possible. If your cumulative GPA is 2.7 or lower you will need to see a TRiO professional tutor and/or meet more frequently with your advisor.
• Check the TRiO Lab often for updates on trips and volunteer opportunities.
• Don’t forget! Free professional tutoring is available to TRiO students.
