Our new TRiO SSS student intern for this academic year is Cassy Ellis. She will be taking over for Angie who will be able to devote more time to finishing her Bachelor's Degree. Welcome aboard Cassy and kudos to Angie for all the hard work!
The Last Hurrah!!!!!!
A Chicago Trip:
Trio students had an incredible time in Chicago! Events included tours of the John Hancock Building, Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum, Chinatown, Navy Pier, Imax Show, Bubba Gump's, Pizano's Chicago Style pizza, a Broadway performance of the "Lion King", riding the EL, and the Latin Music Festival. Students and staff that went were Matt Vance, Mike Brown, Marie Gregg, Angela Klein, Julie Timmer, Dawn Denton, Marie Tadgerson, Roxanna Avery, Angie Peltier, and Deb Leblanc.
Second Annual State Policy Seminar:Deb LeBlanc, TRiO SSS Director, will be taking the following TRiO students: Marie Gregg, Barb Wilkins, Chris Carric, Mike Brown, and Cassy Ellis, on a trip to the Second Annual State Policy Seminar in Lansing on September 13-14. These students will be joining TRiO students from around Michigan to meet with our State Representatives and Senators to share what TRiO has done for them. They will also tour the capitol and will be staying at the Kellogg Center on MSU's campus.
TRiO SSS Fall RetreatThis year’s retreat will be held on Friday, October 7th from 10 am to 2 pm at the Cultural Lodge. Scheduled events include a renowned jazz flutist who has performed around the world. Galen will be doing a lecture/performance. Please check out his web site at: www.flutejuice.com. Galen, a master flutist from Longwood, FL, is a major entertainment figure on college campuses and is known for his intellectually stimulating lectures and powerful jazz vault performances. There will be a buffet lunch and door prizes. Please dress casual (jeans etc. are ok!). There will be a sign up sheet in the TRiO Computer Lab so either sign up or e-mail Deb at dleblanc@bmcc.edu to be added to the list as we need a head count for food. Please plan on attending!
New and Returning TRiO SSS Students
All new and returning TRiO SSS students will need to update their Student Success Plans for FA05. TRiO Students need to schedule appointments with their TRiO advisor before being eligible for TRiO funds, to go on trips or to check out laptops and active participants in TRiO SSS for services.
Professional Tutor Hours
Professional tutoring will take place by the TRiO Computer Lab. Judy Webb will again be tutoring for all lower Math and English as well as Business classes. She will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11-12:30 pm. Paul Ripple (new Science instructor) will provide tutoring for the higher Math and English classes as well as any Science classes. He will be available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1-2 pm each week. Tutoring will begin 1-2 weeks after classes resume.
TRiO Director attending the National ConferenceDeb LeBlanc will be gone form 9/19 to 9/21.
There will be no checking out of laptops, calculators, vaults, or recorders from 9/19-9/21. Please check them out prior to this time.
