TRiO SSS Fall Retreat was a Success
On Friday, October 7th the TRiO SSS Fall Retreat was held at
Bay Mills Community College’s West Campus. Deb LeBlanc, Director of TRiO
SSS, presented a workshop on “The History of the Higher Education Act
and the TRiO Programs.” Following the workshop, Galen Abdur-Razzaq, a
jazz flutist from Flute Juice Productions; Dave Ziegner, bass player from Marquette;
and Paul Neumann, drummer from Marquette performed (see pictures). Galen provided
a lecture/performance on the history of Jazz followed by a catered luncheon.
Bowl-ar-ama
Saturday, October 15th a few of our TRiO SSS students helped to raise money
and participated in a bowl-a-thon at Don-Dee Lanes for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Over $6,000 was raised. It was an awesome turnout!
Walk for Warmth Raised Big Bucks
Saturday, October 22nd, TRiO students helped raise money for
needy families by participating in a 2 mile annual walk in Sault Ste. Marie.
The students that volunteered were; Jacol Casey, Karen Bergeron, Gina Deuman,
and Kelsie Bellville. The Annual Walk for Warmth made over $19,000.
Transfer Trip to Lake State was Fun!
On Friday, October 21st, Nikki Dowd took TRiO students on a transfer trip to
Lake State University. They toured the campus, met with the Chemistry Department,
visited the Native Center, had dinner at the college, and later attended a Hockey
Game (LSSU vs. Ferris). Fun was had by all (see pictures).
Upcoming Transfer Workshop
Tuesday, November 22nd from 9:00-11:00 a.m. there will be former BMCC TRiO students
that have transferred to different Universities here to talk about the transitions
of transferring and answer any questions you may have.
Laptop and Calculator Checkouts
There is a new procedure to go through in order to check or re-check TRiO equipment.

Gone to MAEOPP Conference
Deb Leblanc, Nikki Dowd, and Cassy Ellis will be gone November 14th through
the 16th.
Reminder:
Prior to any student checking out equipment, being selected to go on a trip
or receive grant aid, their “active” criteria, volunteer time, and
class attendance will be checked in the data base and with their instructors.
