Aanii, my name is Darlene Clem.  I am a member of the Bay Mills Indian Community in Brimley, Michigan and currently reside in Kentucky.

This class will analyze the art and artifacts of Native Americans, utilizing a visual means of learning in addition to research to learn about the culture and heritage of the many diversified tribes in the United States. We will explore the background to determine the function and role each played in Native American history. The majority of the art / artifacts shown in the lessons are on display at the Bay Mills Community College Library and Heritage Center and are representative of the Native Americans who resided in the Great Lakes area.  The graphics source is The Making of Modern Michigan, where the digitized images are stored for insurance purposes.

The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and its affect on tribes' cultural artifacts will be addressed.

If you have any questions, please contact me at the e-mail or telephone above.
