COURSE TITLE: NA110 - Native Americans: Sharing Our Culture and Traditions

PREREQUISITES: Ability to navigate the Internet; use the WebBoard Message Board, use a word processing program; communicate using email.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides a means of sharing cultural and traditional norms between the Native American tribes of the United States. It demonstrates the diversity of the Native American ways of life, including cultural changes and continuity of traditions in present-day Native American cultures.
LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will demonstrate the ability to:
  • Explain the significance of the timeless tradition of storytelling to Native Americans.
  • Identify cultural and traditional similarities of Native Americans across the United States.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the unique relationship between the Native American communities.
  • Explore how government policies impact current political, social and cultural issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF STUDENT: Students will be expected to post weekly WebBoard assignments and submit Weekly Reports to the instructor. The Weekly Reports and Summary Report are to be sent to the instructor via email at amsuggitt@hotmail.com. The Weekly Reports and Summary Report will be submitted as attachments to the email.  If a student is to miss an assignment, s/he must inform the instructor.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: You have fifteen weeks to complete the course from the time you receive your password.
PLAGIARISM AND CHEATING: The instructor reserves the right to fail any student for cheating on any assignment or plagiarizing the work of others. The BMCC Administrative board may discipline students who cheat or plagiarize.

STUDENT EVALUATION CRITERIA: Evaluation will be based on a combination of WebBoard Postings (15), Weekly Reports (15) and one Summary Report. Refer to the Grading System Guidelines for additional information. Grades will be based on content, timeliness and grammar. The Weekly Reports and final Summary Report are to be 1-2 pages in length, double spaced, using a 12-point font.
